Learn About RSS

What is RSS?

RSS is a format used by publishers and bloggers in order to easily distribute the content on their websites. RSS stands for "Real Simple Syndication."

What can RSS do for me?

By "subscribing" to an RSS feed -- in other words, by adding this web page to your RSS reader -- you will able to get the latest content from these websites delivered directly to your web browser or to your RSS reader. Another name for an RSS reader is a news aggregator.

Is it free to subscribe to RSS feeds?

I have never seen one that is not free.

How can I get RSS feeds?

You'll need a way to read the feeds.

One simple way to get RSS feeds is to use Bloglines, at www.bloglines.com

Another excellent method: For users of Firefox browser, download the extension called "Sage Reader".

There are other Feed Readers available, and some are free.

Once I get a Feed Reader, how can I subscribe to the blog or RSS web site?

That depends on your reader. Sometimes you can simply drag the button, or the icon beside the URL, into your reader. Other times you will need to copy the feed's URL into the right place in your reader.

For example, from the Youthtopia.com home page, you can subscribe to our feed this way:

1) Click on the link that says RSS.
2) A new page will appear. Copy that URL: http://www.youthtopia.com/wp-rss2.php into your feed reader.
3) When the new link appears in your reader for Youthtopia, double click on it to get Youthtopia's latest news.
